Course Content

Course Introduction
This section introduces the Pad & Co Pet First Aid Awareness Training course. Team members will learn how the course works, what is expected of them, the pass/fail rules, critical safety questions, and the importance of following Pad & Co procedures during urgent or uncertain pet care situations.

Module 1: Pet First Aid Basics
This module explains what pet first aid is, what it is not, and the role of a Pad & Co team member during an illness, injury or emergency. Team members will learn that first aid is temporary support before veterinary advice or treatment, and that they must not diagnose, prescribe treatment, give human medication or delay veterinary help.

Module 2: Emergency Priorities
This module teaches team members the correct order of action during an urgent or uncertain pet care situation. It covers staff safety, pet safety, public safety, when to contact veterinary support, when to contact Pad & Co management, when to contact the client and when to complete an incident report.

Module 3: First Aid Kit
This module explains the purpose of a pet first aid kit, what items may be useful to have available, how first aid items should be used safely, and when Pad & Co procedures must be followed if first aid support is given during a booking.

Module 4: Wounds, Bleeding and Paw Injuries
This module explains how team members should respond to cuts, bleeding, broken nails, paw injuries and other minor wound concerns during a Pad & Co booking. It covers when to stop activity, how to keep the pet calm, when veterinary advice may be needed, and when Pad & Co procedures and incident reporting must be followed.

Module 5: Heatstroke and Hot Weather Emergencies
This module explains how team members should recognise signs of heatstroke and respond safely during hot weather or overheating concerns. It covers when to stop activity, how to begin cooling, when veterinary advice is needed, and when Pad & Co procedures and incident reporting must be followed.

Module 6: Choking and Breathing Problems
This module explains how team members should recognise possible choking or breathing difficulties during a Pad & Co booking. It covers urgent warning signs, how to respond safely, what actions must be avoided, when veterinary advice is needed, and when Pad & Co procedures and incident reporting must be followed.

Module 7: Poisoning and Toxic Substances
This module explains how team members should recognise possible poisoning or exposure to toxic substances during a Pad & Co booking. It covers common risks, what information to gather, what actions must be avoided, when veterinary advice is needed, and when Pad & Co procedures and incident reporting must be followed.

Module 8: Seizures, Collapse and Unconsciousness
This module explains how team members should respond if a dog has a seizure, collapses or becomes unconscious during a Pad & Co booking. It covers urgent warning signs, how to keep the dog safe, what actions must be avoided, when veterinary advice is needed, and when Pad & Co procedures and incident reporting must be followed.

Module 9: Road Accidents, Falls and Suspected Broken Bones
This module explains how team members should respond if a dog is involved in a road accident, fall, heavy impact or suspected broken bone during a Pad & Co booking. It covers staff safety, hidden injuries, when to avoid moving the dog, when veterinary advice is needed, and when Pad & Co procedures and incident reporting must be followed.

Module 10: Bites, Fights and Behaviour During Injury
This module explains how team members should respond if a dog becomes frightened, defensive, injured, involved in a fight, or causes/receives a bite during a Pad & Co booking. It covers safe handling, giving space, avoiding escalation, recognising that pain and fear can change behaviour, when veterinary or medical advice may be needed, and when Pad & Co procedures and incident reporting must be followed.

Module 11: Client Communication and Incident Reporting
This module explains how team members should communicate clearly and professionally after an injury, illness, emergency or welfare concern during a Pad & Co booking. It covers factual updates, avoiding diagnosis or blame, contacting the correct people, completing the incident form, recording key details, and following Pad & Co procedures.

Pad & Co Pet First Aid Awareness Final Assessment
This final assessment checks that team members understand the key safety principles covered across all modules of the Pad & Co Pet First Aid Awareness Training. It covers emergency priorities, first aid kit use, wounds, heatstroke, choking, poisoning, seizures, accidents, behaviour during injury, client communication and incident reporting.
